Create your Artwork of the Month

6-8     interactive

Subject: synthesis
Graduation Standards: (1), (2), (3)
Technical Requirements: (web)

DESCRIPTION: Each month, on-line or the Walker Art Center's Art Lab visitors can create their own rendition of the selected "Artwork of the Month", either on their computer or by traditional means. They can then submit or send their work to be included in this on-line "Create your Artwork of the Month" gallery.

OBJECTIVES: To understand the importance of certain works that are highlighted every month by the Walker Art Center's curators and educators. By creating their own interpretation of a selected artwork, students are more involved in the creative process. They have a chance to study the work in depth and understand what is involved in creating it.

PROCEDURE: An on-line gallery is formed, where students can send and exhibit their painting, sketch, or photograph of an artwork that they view, either in the museum or on the WWW, inspired after each month's Artwork of the Month selection.

The creations will be displayed on the web and can then be discussed in class. This gives a chance to the learners to think about the artwork and "personalize" it to their own understanding and creative expression.
