Subject: Style Graduation Standards: (1), (2), (3) Materials: "Greeting Cards". |

OBJECTIVES: The objective of Greeting in Style is to teach students the meaning of individual and group style and to discuss ways that an artist's style reflects choices determined by his or her culture.
PROCEDURE: Style can be seen not only in works of art, types of clothing, or models of cars, but also in the way that people behave. The way in which people greet each other, for example, canalso convey a specific style. Pick a partner. I am going to pass out a card that lists a type of person. You and your partner will do a "charade" of two of those people greeting each other. Take a few minutes to decide how to charade your characters. Think about how your characters would walk, what their postures and facial expressions would be, and what their degree of physical contact would be. While each set of partners acts out their roles, I would like the rest of the group to guess the characters they are playing. (After everyone has done their charade, mix it up by haveing different characters greet each other As an analogy to the greetings, compare two works of art in the same style and two in a different style.)
