"One of the most compelling pieces of theater I have ever seen . . . a theater of the people, who collectively had used their powers of invention to stun us, no matter what the difference in language."--Evening Standard, U.K.

A stirring outdoor performance experience, this monumental physical theater work from Poland's Teatr Biuro Podróz. y uses masked figures on stilts, fire, searchlights, spectacular sets, few words, and a chilling sound score to depict the horrors of armed conflict and the dreams of people displaced during wartime. Based on the testimonies of victims of the Bosnian conflict, Carmen Funebre employs the power of the night to tell the universal story of war and the human tragedy that inevitably accompanies it. Performed in English and Polish. Copresented with the Guthrie Theater. Note: This general admission performance, during which the audience stands, is 70 minutes long and takes place rain or shine.
