Soundstage offers a new approach to music theater, a playfully wordless theater for the eyes and ears. Five virtuoso musicians explore the possibilities of a stage composed entirely of huge sound sculptures and fascinating new musical instruments, all invented by iconoclastic West Coast composer Paul Dresher in collaboration with Daniel Schmidt. The band of musical pranksters will negotiate a landscape of plucked and bowed strings, percussion, wind, and large mechanical constructions under the direction of multitalented performer-director Rinde Eckert. The work was commissioned in part by the Walker and will be performed by the new-music ensemble Zeitgeist.

THESE PERFORMANCES ARE MADE POSSIBLE IN PART WITH FUNDS FROM CHAMBER MUSIC AMERICA.
