AUDITORIUM

Trumpeter-composer-bandleader Dave Douglas formed his Charms of the Night Sky quartet to pay tribute to the haunting Jewish and gypsy folk music of Eastern Europe. Douglas, violinist Mark Feldman, accordionist Guy Klucevsek, and bassist Greg Cohen travel a jazz trail marked by tango, klezmer, Balkan, and classical music as well as film scores. The ensemble's strong compositional and improvisational sense fuels music possessing pensive beauty, lyrical drama, playful ebullience, and spirited romp. Formed in 1997, the group recently released the CD A Thousand Evenings (RCA Victor). Both Douglas and Cohen performed in the Walker/Northrop April 2001 sold-out concert by John Zorn's Masada.
