Trashy talk-show diva Ricki Lake made her debut as Tracy Turnblad, a big girl with big hair and big dreams, circa 1962. In her zealousness to win the teen pop-dancing queen crown on Baltimore's number-one dance revue, The Corny Collins Show, Tracy faces stiff competition from Amber Von Tussle and her showbiz parents, played by Debbie Harry and Sonny Bono. Tracy may have all the moves and bouffant styling it takes, but her déclassé folks (Divine and Jerry Stiller) may stand in her way. Also featuring Pia Zadora, Ruth Brown, and The Cars' Ric Ocasek. 1988, U.S., 90 minutes.
