Hachivi Edgar Heap of Birds

Hachivi Edgar Heap of Birds is known for work that extends the notion of sculpture by combining language and the technologies of mass communication. An Oklahoma native of Cheyenne-Arapaho heritage, he creates art focusing on issues central to Native Americans and indigenous peoples throughout the world. He talked about his past and present work, including Building Minnesota (1990), on view in the exhibition 100 Years of Sculpture.
