Minimalism
c 1960 - c 1975
USA
A primarily U.S. movement in the 1960s and 1970s. Painting and sculpture pared to a minimum by reducing forms to pure, abstract, geometric shapes. Often repeated in a series of identical units, Minimalist works are also called "primary structures."
