New Media EMERGENCE AND CONVERGENCE: DIGITAL MEDIA AND ONLINE ART THURSDAY, DECEMBER 2, 1999, INFORMAL PRESENTATIONS BY THE ARTISTS, 5 PM PANEL DISCUSSION, 7 PM FREE AUDITORIUM

Five of the most exciting artists working on the Web today talk about the potentials of this new medium during a panel discussion moderated by Steve Dietz, Walker Director of New Media Initiatives. Included are Mark Amerika, Auriea Harvey, and Jennifer and Kevin McCoy, who have each recently completed online projects commissioned for the Walker's Gallery 9. Joining them is Jon Winet, who is kicking off a yearlong McKnight residency at Intermedia Arts titled Democracy: The Last Campaign. Each panelist brings a unique perspective to digital online art, from hypertext to personal biography, from conceptual advertising to socially engaged, community-based activism. Prior to the discussion, the artists will present their projects.
