I'LL CRY TOMORROW
DIRECTED
BY DANIEL MANN
Lillian Roth's harrowing autobiography of the same name was the basis
for this 1950s bio-pic, starring Susan Hayward as the famous singer.
Following Roth through her disastrous marriages and years of alcoholism,
I'll Cry Tomorrow pulls out all the stops as a cautionary tale.
Eddie Albert stars as Burt McGuire, an Alcoholics Anonymous advocate
who convinces her to rise out of her squalor, and in turn wins her
heart. Roth's coaching of Hayward gave the film an added touch of
realism, and perhaps helped the actress net another Oscar nomination.
1955, U.S., BW, 16mm, 117 minutes. |
