Some days turn out to be simply
unforgettable, and this ensemble cast of actors brings one to life in
this energetic comedy. For Marie, the day includes a positive pregnancy
test, a car accident, and getting fired from her job. For Hortense, cell
phone in hand, the frantic quest for sexual satisfaction begins in a traffic
jam. For Luis and Maurice, the unexpected appearance of a loved one pitches
them into a world of dreams and nightmares. Director Marion Vernoux creates
this day-in-the-life story of random people whose lives come together
at a one-hour photo shop. 2001, France, color, 35mm, in French with English
subtitles, 94 minutes.

FLYING MACHINE #9: MILKWEED ALCHEMY
DIRECTED BY
CLAIRE SIMONSON
After a five-year-old showed her how to pop open a milkweed pod and free
the floss within, filmmaker Claire Simonson was reminded of the paradox
of finding indescribable beauty in a roadside weed. She features the plant
in #9 of her continuing series of improbable flying machines. Someday
one of them is really going to fly. 2001, U.S., color, video, 9 minutes.
