OUR TIMES (RUZEGAR-E MA)
Directed by
Rakhshan Bani-Etemad
In Iran's 2001 elections, there were 48 female presidential nominees (though
none of them won). This film captures images of many of the people involved
with the election (including the filmmaker's daughter), with a particular
focus on the women candidates. Our Times reveals their singular stories,
offering insight into the circumstances surrounding their decisions to
run for president and attempts to control their own lives. Rakhshan Bani-Etemad
lives in Tehran and is best known for her feature films The Blue Veiled
and Under the Skin of the City. 2002, Iran, color, 35mm, in Farsi with
English subtitles, 65 minutes.
