BARBARA BARKER CENTER FOR DANCE, U OF M WEST BANK, 500 21st AVENUE SOUTH, MINNEAPOLIS

Helping to inaugurate the University of Minnesota's exceptional new dance building, the Walker brings the renowned David Dorfman Dance to Minneapolis--the first national company to appear in the new Barbara Barker Center for Dance. Well known in the Twin Cities as a teacher and performer, Dorfman and his outstanding dancers have not been seen here in nearly a decade. His work is characterized by a generous sense of humor, a rough-and-tumble physicality, explorations of sexual identity, and an alternately wistful/witty view of modern relationships. The performances, held in conjunction with Dorfman's three-week Cowles Chair Visiting Artist residency, will include A Cure for Gravity (1998), featuring an original score by Joe Jackson, and other new works. Copresented with the University of Minnesota Dance Program, Department of Theater Arts and Dance.
