Outlandish multimedia performance art from the award-winning English-German Gob Squad, the refreshingly risky Safe is part rock concert, part plane disaster, part theater, and entirely absorbed in the absurd drama of everyday life. Sporting a seductively deceptive mixture of both live and recorded images and sounds, Safe is performed by six hopefuls who believe they could have been the greatest rock band of all time . . . if only they'd learned to play their instruments. The show follows the action in reverse, with an airplane crash site providing the first glimpse of the fallen stars. On stage, a large video screen, a cocktail bar, and the rock band are framed by a magical circle of tiny showbiz lights that outlines a "safe" area for the action to take place.
