The Safety of Objects presents
an ensemble of four suburban families whose experiences--personal tragedies,
SUV mania, right-on-the-edge marriages, and hilarious relationships--liberate
them from the false sense of comfort they have created in their neighborhood.
Director Rose Troche (Go Fish and Bedrooms and Hallways) expertly weaves
the intersecting story lines with equal parts humor and sympathy, eliciting
magical performances from her stellar cast: Glenn Close, Dermot Mulroney,
Mary Kay Place, Joshua Jackson, Patricia Clarkson, and Timothy Olyphant.
Adapted from short stories by A. M. Homes. 2001, U.S., color, 35mm, 121
minutes.
