Film/Video VIGNETTES OF LIFE: FINKIEL, DEPARDON, SIMON JUNE 5-7, 2002 UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED, SCREENINGS ARE $6 ($4 WALKER MEMBERS) AND TAKE PLACE IN THE AUDITORIUM. These three films by the acclaimed French filmmakers Emmanuel Finkiel, Claire Simon, and Raymond Depardon provide an intimate look into different aspects of quotidian life in France. Delicate threads of memory and history, love, and the cycle of life connect the three stories. The filmmakers respect the human dignity of their subjects, avoiding sensationalism and giving full attention to the poetic, sometimes harsh, reality of their everyday lives. In the process, they create sublime reflections on the documentary genre and meditate on their own relationships to their subjects and to the idea of objective truth.
