AN ANATOMY
February, 2000

An Anatomy is based upon the body and time. The body is a metaphor and the time is the ever present fact of the computer. The site will be built of small windows which can be put together to form a larger picture, with all the windows interacting with each other. The site may seem to interact with the user instead of the other way around. Using an interface driven by time and changed by time, I will create a work which appears different from moment to moment.
This is connected to the idea of an anatomical reference as text and navigation and creates the story of a life. Seeing images and hearing sounds of daily life ranging from cars to laughter to rain, I want to build a picture of a human through the fact of a body and the fact of time and all of the million malleable things that take place on that body, day to day. The longer one stays, a story is built of this person and her life and her time. Time is everywhere, unseen but felt. There is a beginning but no end, only time. I want to give visual representation to the passage of time and leave the viewer in his or her intimate space staring at the screen to ponder it and to build in his or her mind the picture of this person and her personality. I want this piece to function as a momento mori, a myth, a dream, a vision.

Her personal work deals with issues of humanity in this machine driven space. In all respects, she works to dispel the popular notion that the Internet is an impersonal,"machine-like" medium by both creating imagery that evokes a tangible quality, as well as stressing the communicative aspect of online culture
