Introduced by actress Marie Brassard Prolific playwright-actor-theater director Robert Lepage has emerged as an important filmmaker within contemporary Canadian cinema. His third feature film, Nô is partly inspired by his critically acclaimed play The Seven Streams of the River Ota. The film is set in the fall of 1970, shifting back and forth between its two protagonists: a Quebec actress (played by longtime Lepage collaborator Anne-Marie Cadieux) who is performing at the Osaka World's Fair and her activist boyfriend, who is back home caught up in Quebec's October Crisis. The vast differences in space and time that separate the couple impare their communication, leading to an emotional crisis that parallels the political breakdown. 1998, Canada, 83 minutes.
