"Their wild energy is the essence of gypsy music . . . their set seemed like the bubbling source of 20th-century rhythm . . . they spun out cadences that recalled bebop, salsa, and the polyrhythms of Zimbabwe and Nigeria."
--The New York Times

Discover the invigorating and passionate sounds of Taraf de Haïdouks, a group of Gypsy "lautari" (traditional musicians) from the small village of Clejani, Romania, during their first Minnesota performance. A dozen brilliant instrumentalists and singers, ranging in age from 20 to 78, introduce Western listeners to the rich, remarkably complex musical world of the Romanian Gypsies--dizzying fiddle dances, Turkish-flavored tunes from the Balkans, and characteristic vocal inflections reminiscent of their origins on the Indian subcontinent. Copresented with the Cedar Cultural Centre.
