A woman (Mink Stole) has her husband killed by convincing her obese maid (Jean Hill) to sit on him, then the two flee to Mortville, a Hooverville-style refuge for Baltimore's nudists and petty thugs. There they encounter the mad Queen Carlotta (Edith Massey) with her servants in leather fetish gear as well as outcasts Muffy St. Jacques (Liz Renay) and Mole McHenry (Susan Lowe). In Desperate Living, Waters takes his grotesque tactics to the extreme with a truly horrific gender-reassignment scene. 1977, U.S., 90 minutes.
