2002/2003 LATITUDES INITIATIVE ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE
BRINGING THE WORLD HOME

As well as presenting landmark works by artists from around the globe, this initiative engages with today's artists by providing opportunities in Minneapolis for the development and presentation of new pieces. In addition to the collaboration between Walker artists-in-residence New Delhi's Raqs Media Collective and Tokyo's Atelier Bow-Wow presented in the exhibition, the Walker welcomes the following Latitudes artists for residencies:

* Wang Jian Wei (China) treated the Minneapolis audience with comparative tofu-testing in Movable Taste a culinary performance/installation presented as part of DIG.IT, the 2nd Annual Festival of Digital Media in October; his video projection Living Elsewhere is also presented in the exhibition.

* During the exhibition preview party, Berlin-based South African-born Robin Rhode will create ephemeral, charcoal wall drawings in the galleries that will remain throughout the run of the exhibition.

* Brazilian artist Cabelo complements his participation in the exhibition through a performance on the night of the opening, building a bridge between his plastic and scenic endeavors.

* New York-based choreographer Ralph Lemon will be in residence February 3-16 to develop the final stage of his remarkable Geography trilogy, House (co-commissioned by the Walker), which premieres in 2004-2005. Lemon and his collaborators will also give a short performance as part of opening-night activities.

* London-based media-design-performance collective moti roti and New York-based experimental theater company The Builders Association will be in residence April 19-27 to complete and present their Walker-co-commissioned multimedia performance Alladeen.
