Reclusive writer William Forrester (Sean Connery) wrote the Great American
Novel and never published again; instead, he spent his days watching the
local Bronx boys play basketball from his window. Jamal Wallace (Rob Brown),
one of those boys, spends his time off the court scribbling in journals,
but has little hope of becoming a professional writer. On a dare, he breaks
into Forrester's apartment, and they begin an uneasy collaboration. The
film hints at dark and challenging issues--Forrester's voyeuristic interest
in boys, Wallace's immersion into a white prep school and the possibility
of losing his identity--yet it remains focused on the inspirational elements
of the two men's relationship. 2000, U.S., color, 35mm, 137 minutes.
