TO THE CLUB: THE WOMEN OF ROCKABILLY
DIRECTED BY
BETH HARRINGTON
Their stage antics were sassy,
bordering on aggressive. They bucked the staid notion of appropriate country
songs and rejected models of postwar femininity and domesticity. Ladies
and gentlemen, the trailblazing women of rockabilly: Wanda Jackson, Brenda
Lee, Janis Martin, and Lorrie Collins. These are their stories. 2001,
U.S., color, 16mm, 58 minutes.

LILITH
ON TOP
DIRECTED BY
LYNNE STOPKEWICH
This portrait of the Lilith
Fair is a concert fix, a look backstage, and a testament to the event's
diverse complexities and unifying idealism. In 1997, Sarah McLachlan and
her partners launched the all-female traveling music festival that rocked
the male-dominated industry and captured the imagination and support of
audiences across North America. Director Lynne Stopkewich and a team of
filmmakers went on the road to document this "celebration of women in
music" and the people who made it a reality. Featuring Sheryl Crow, the
Dixie Chicks, the Pretenders, Indigo Girls, and others. 2001, Canada,
color, 35mm, 100 minutes.
Producers Dean English and Jessica Fraser are disappointed at the last minute cancellation of Lilith on Top. "Due to some unresolved music issues, we have been forced to cancel all screenings of the film." they said. "We hope this does not stop or dampen the wonderful spirit of Women with Vision or its celebration of women in music."
