WALKER
AFTER HOURS IS A UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO ENJOY CONTEMPORARY ART WITH
CONTEMPORARY PEOPLE, NOT TO MENTION HORS D'OEUVRES, A CASH BAR,
AND THE MARTINI OF THE MONTH.

On February 14, the Walker
is throwing an all-night party to mark the yearlong closing of the
building and the construction of our expanded campus and gardens opening
in 2005. Join us for a sunset-to-sunrise celebration featuring the
big-beat mod sound of Sideways, short films by Canadian filmmaker
Guy Maddin, London's avant DJ Janek Schaefer, a "reel" art-making
activity, food by Wolfgang Puck, and the Martini of the Month, Last
Call. But it doesn't stop at midnight! Jump into your jammies for
a back-to-back film fest of Maddin's works and a six-hour not-to-be-missed
performance by the U.K.'s lauded company Forced Entertainment, followed
by a complimentary continental breakfast at 5 am.
It's last call at the Walker! Not since 1969 have we thrown a party
of this magnitude. Help us make history with an all-night celebration
before we close for a year of expansion activities. Commemorate this
landmark After Hours with live music, special archival installations,
continuous film screenings, hors d'oeuvres by Wolfgang Puck, and a
last look at the galleries. Stay for an overnight performance of And
on the Thousandth Night by the U.K.'s Forced Entertainment and
dusk-to-dawn screenings of films by Guy Maddin, then enjoy a complimentary
continental breakfast at 5 am on Sunday morning. Toast the entire
occasion with the final Martini of the Month: Last Call.
FROM
9 PM TO 12 MIDNIGHT:
Enjoy a final visit to the galleries for the exhibitions The
Squared Circle: Boxing in Contemporary Art; Past Things
and Present: Jasper Johns since 1983; Selections from
the Permanent Collection; and Pop3: Oldenburg, Rosenquist,
Warhol.
Hear the big-beat mod sound of Sideways, led by local mogul
Ed Ackerson, plus spin through the night with London's avant-turntablist
Janek Schaefer.
Take in short films by Canadian fabulist Guy Maddin in Gallery
3 (Odilon Redon, 1995; The Heart of the World,
2000) as well as archival footage from 34 years of Walker exhibitions
and events.
Think outside the box with an installation of Aldo Moroni's
1977 architectural masterpiece Pentalandia, and take
a look at highlights of current architectural projects underway
in the Twin Cities. |
