Jerome grant recipients '99:

Emerging Artists/Emergent Medium_01 is a series of artist projects and critical essays commissioned by Gallery 9, Walker Art Center, made possible with the generous support of the Jerome Foundation.

We believe that by highlighting and supporting the work of emerging new media artists, we can create a context--supportive and critical--that will help establish individual artists of merit and help establish online media as a serious avenue for creative expression. Furthermore, the emergent state of the medium is such that we believe support of such artists is one of the most important ways for museums and other institutions to begin to understand the vast potential of new media and the Internet.

Many worthwhile and exciting proposals were submitted. The first three Emerging Artists/Emergent Medium grants have been awarded to Auriea Harvey, Jennifer and Kevin McCoy, and Vivian Selbo. Look for their projects in Gallery 9 in the coming year.
