DRACULA: PAGES FROM A VIRGIN'S DIARY, 8 PM
DIRECTED BY GUY MADDIN
$7 ($5 Walker Members)

Dracula: Pages from a Virgin's Diary

Famed Winnipeg director Guy Maddin takes a stab at the last century's most famous monster. He re-created the original ballet by Mark Godden, approaching it with his own baroque silent-movie flavor. Maddin's cinematic style is rooted in melodrama, Soviet montage and other characteristics of the silent-film era. As in his other works, he succeeds with bravura to turn his film-historical obsessions into an expressive contemporary art form that stands by itself as a work of art. Dracula: Pages from a Virgin's Diary is a high-quality work on every level: a great synthesis of dance, drama, music, and above all, mesmerizing cinematography. 2002, Canada, B/W and color, 35mm, 75 minutes.
