LE TIGRE
SPECIAL GUEST DJ: WENDY LEWIS
Le Tigre, the latest project from Bikini
Kill's Kathleen Hanna, pumps out thought-provoking punk-pop and brash
lo-fi grooves that surge and saunter with wit and wile. Ironically
pairing fist-in-the-air feminism and the nostalgic sounds of jettisoned
technology (Fisher Price turntables, '80s samplers), Le Tigre (Kathleen
Hanna, Johanna Fateman, and JD Samson) proves to be a critical force
in the postmodern rock arena. |

IMITATION OF LIFE
DIRECTED
BY DOUGLAS SIRK
Sirk's remake of the original Claudette Colbert vehicle stars Lana
Turner as aspiring actress Lora Meredeth, who employs African-American
Annie Johnson (Juanita Moore). As her stage career takes off, Meredeth
leaves the care of her daughter to her maid, who is raising a daughter
of her own. Central to the story is the performance given by Johnson's
daughter, Sarah Jane (Susan Kohner), as a fair-skinned woman passing
as white, to her mother's disapproval. Meanwhile, the neglected daughter
falls into an ill-fated romance with a handsome photographer whom
the actress also happens to love. 1959, U.S., color and BW, 16mm,
125 minutes. |
