In this radical yet bewilderingly beautiful interpretation of King Lear, Brussels-based Needcompany balances the universal themes, the rhyme and reason, and the illusion and chaos in Shakespeare's play. Acclaimed Flemish director-visual artist Jan Lauwers conjures a contemporary, universal adaptation performed in a mix of Flemish, Shakespearian English, and French by a brilliant international ensemble of actors. Music by the Residents and Mogwai, among others, and choreography by Carlotta Sagna. Copresented with the Guthrie Theater, Theatre de la Jeune Lune, and Northrop Auditorium as part of the 2001-2002 Discover Series.
