With integrity, sensitivity, intelligence, and compassion, Honigmann successfully brings to the screen a topic with as little popular appeal as Alzheimer's disease. Based on J. Bernlef's book Mind Shadows, the film portrays the twilight years of a man named Maarten. By mixing his memories with the present, Honigmann enables the viewer to inhabit his history, mind, and body, exposing a landscape that is foreign and frightening to most people. 1988, The Netherlands, color, 35mm, in English and Dutch with English subtitles, 112 minutes.
