Architettura explores connections between electronic music, film, and contemporary
architecture. Musicians Taylor Deupree from Brooklyn, David Toop from
London, Savvas Ysatis from Athens, and Panacea from Frankfurt perform compositions
inspired by such structures as the Tower of Winds in Yokohama, Japan; Waterloo
Station in London; the Museum of Fruit in Yamanashi, Japan; and the pre-planned
city of Brasília, Brazil. Slides of these architectural sites complement
the musical selections, which have also been released in a series of compact
discs. Between musical sets, Iara Lee's (Modulations, Synthetic
Pleasures) videos on architecture--Terminal Happiness (1999,
U.S., video, 6 minutes), Tower of Winds (1999, U.S., video, 4 minutes),
Monumental Minimalism (2000, U.S., video, 2 minutes), and Enclosed
Nature (1999, U.S., video, 1 minute)--will be screened. This multimedia
event by Caipirinha Productions debuted on the Brooklyn Bridge anchorage
in June 1999 and has toured the world during the past year.
THIS EVENT IS SUPPORTED BY THE BENTSON FAMILY FUND FOR
THE ACQUISITION, CONSERVATION, AND PRESENTATION OF FILM AND IS PRESENTED
AS PART OF AN ONGOING SERIES OF EVENTS CO-CURATED BY THE WALKER'S FILM/VIDEO
AND PERFORMING ARTS DEPARTMENTS.
