ARTIST TALK
CATHERINE OPIE
SUNDAY,
APRIL 28, 2002,
2 PM
FREE WITH GALLERY ADMISSION |
As a Walker artist-in-residence in 2001, photographer Catherine
Opie spent the winter documenting the simple and oddly beautiful ice-fishing
houses and rigs that dot Minnesota lakes. Last fall she returned to the
Twin Cities to photograph the skyway systems that connect downtown office
buildings in a labyrinth of tunnels that hover above the streets. The
culmination of her yearlong residency is Catherine
Opie: Skyways & Icehouses, an exhibition exploring the vernacular
architecture of Minnesota and its ties to unique regional experiences.
In addition to the artist's discussion of her work, this program also
features area actors reading stories about skyways and ice fishing written
by local writers. Meet in Gallery 7.
CATHERINE OPIE'S RESIDENCY IS MADE POSSIBLE
BY GENEROUS SUPPORT FROM THE PEW CHARITABLE TRUSTS.
