Long before hip-hop DJs and the likes of Beck and Puff Daddy (a.k.a. P. Diddy) introduced the idea of musical re-use through sampling, there existed a vibrant subculture of artists, filmmakers, and musicians dedicated to the finer points of "recycling" the expanding overload of commercial sights and sounds. Join the Tape-beatles, Wet Gate, and Steev Hise on the closing night of Sound Unseen, Minneapolis' underground film and music festival, for a short presentation and conversation about "borrowed" music and film. Moderated by University of Iowa communications studies professor Kembrew McLeod. Cosponsored by Sound Unseen (www.soundunseen.com).

Anne-Marie Schleiner is engaged in gaming and network culture in a variety of roles as a writer, critic, curator, and gaming artist-designer. Her work investigates the domains of avatar gender construction, computer gaming culture, and hacker art. She wrote the critical essay "Does Lara Croft wear fake polygons?" and curated the online exhibitions of game mods and add-ons Cracking the Maze: Game Patches and Plug-ins as Hacker Art, Mutation.fem, and Luckykiss_xxx>//adult kisekae ningyou sampling. Schleiner runs a site focused on game hacks and open-source digital art forms at www.opensorcery.net.
