I have a real-life story to share for your enjoyment. For many years, I fished Buffalo Lake in Buffalo, Minnesota by row boat (transported by trailer) during the open water months and in a permanent (hard-sided) shelter in the winter months. Frequently, I would take my kids with me and sometimes their friends. In January 1979, I took my six year-old daughter and her best friend out to the fish house for some crappie action. I was driving a 1972 Volvo station wagon and the girls were in the back seat. I stopped on-shore and had them remove their seat belts, before driving onto the ice. About 500 yards or half-way to the fish house, my daughter leaned over my right shoulder and with a concerned voice, blurted, "Dad, we forgot the boat!" It was and continues to be a family "keepsake.”
