. . . every performance is a priceless moment in musical history."--India Currents
Founder of the Mahavishnu Orchestra in the early 1970s, John McLaughlin
is legendary for his blending of electronic instruments with classical
Indian musical structures. In 1975, he and tabla player Zakir Hussain
formed the quartet Shakti, a forerunner of world music as it has been
popularized today. Jazz, blues, classical ragas, and talas find common
ground in improvisation and rhythmic structures bound together by these
virtuosic performers. For this extraordinary Minnesota debut, the pair
reconvenes with U. Shrinivas (mandolin) and V. Selvaganesh (ghatam, kanjira,
maretangham) in that continuing spirit of musical adventurousness. Copresented
with the Cedar Cultural Center, the Dakota Bar and Grill, the Indian Music
Society of Minnesota, and the Minnesota Orchestra.
MADE POSSIBLE BY GENEROUS SUPPORT FROM TARGET.
