Set Me Free
is a moving coming-of-age story set in the early 1960s. The 13-year-old daughter of a Catholic Québéçoise mother and Jewish immigrant father, Hanna feels out of place at Catholic school; instead, she finds comfort in the cinema, particularly Godard's Vivre sa vie. Pool's film offers both a powerful story of a teenager's search for identity and a portrait of the artist as a young woman. 1999, Canada/ Switzerland/ France, in French with English subtitles, 35mm, 94 minutes.
