THE DECLINE OF WESTERN CIVILIZATION
Directed by Penelope Spheeris
The first installment of Spheeris' trilogy has become a seminal document of the Los Angeles punk scene. Filmed in 1979, featured bands include X, Black Flag, Circle Jerks, and the Germs. Many of the artists and followers profiled have since died, but the punk scene has continued with new generations who have used the film as a subcultural guide. 1981, U.S., 35mm, 100 minutes.

PRECEDED BY: Persona, by Kristie Lu Stout (1999, U.S., computer media, 3 minutes).

HOME GIRLS, PROGRAM III

HOMOCORE MINNEAPOLIS
Directed by Lisa Ganser
This documentary investigates the local queer-punk scene, known as Homocore Minneapolis. Ganser interviews Homocore founder and booker Ed Varga as well as members of The Butchies, The Misfires, and Tribe 8 in her portrait of this DIY movement. 1999, U.S., S-VHS, 18 minutes.
