Jonathan Shields (Kirk Douglas) is the ruthless head of a failing studio, Georgia Lorrison (Lana Turner) the insecure actress he dumped--and that's only the beginning of his nastiness. Together with director Fred Amiel (Barry Sullivan) and screenwriter James Lee Bartlow (Dick Powell), both of whom have suffered at Shields' hands, Lorrison agrees to a studio-saving film after a persuasive transcontinental phone call from the man who wronged them all.
