THE BAD AND THE BEAUTIFUL
DIRECTED
BY VINCENTE MINNELLI
Producer John Houseman and director Vincente Minnelli put together
this exposé of Hollywood intrigue. Jonathan Shields (Kirk Douglas)
is the ruthless head of a failing studio, Georgia Lorrison (Lana Turner)
the insecure actress he dumped--and that's only the beginning of his
nastiness. Together with director Fred Amiel (Barry Sullivan) and
screenwriter James Lee Bartlow (Dick Powell), both of whom have suffered
at Shields' hands, Lorrison agrees to a studio-saving film after a
persuasive transcontinental phone call from the man who wronged them
all. Also with Gloria Grahame, Walter Pidgeon, and pre-Leave It
to Beaver Barbara Billingsley. 1952, U.S., BW, 16mm, 118 minutes.
