DANCES BY MATHEW JANCZEWSKI
Arena Dances by Mathew Janczewski presents two new works: Honor,
in which a trio of male dancers takes on the task of exploring masculinity
and its meanings in collaboration with playwright Gregg Bush; and
Struggle to Nothing, in which a sextet struggles to define
themselves against the never-ending current of time in an imaginary
world of commotion and confusion.
HIJACK, a 10-year choreographic collaboration between Kristin Van
Loon and Arwen Wilder, steals, enacts, and critiques theories and
cultural icons from creationism and evolution in It took great
luck for you to be a winner. See the survival of the fittest in
a battle between knuckle-walking and kung-fu, ontology and philology,
Lou Reed and Meredith Monk, choreography and improvisation, with a
ticker-tape parade for the winner.
