The Archives Committee of the Society for Cinema and Media Studies presents a program of archival treasures. Research by SCMS members and groups such as Women Film Pioneers has led to the rediscovery of film archives and the restoration and preservation of a number of important motion pictures by women filmmakers.

A FOOL AND HIS MONEY

Directed by Alice Guy Blaché
A major "lost" work, this first-known narrative film with an all African-American cast was rediscovered in a flea market in 2000. Print loaned by the American Film Institute; restoration was made possible by New York Women in Film and Television. Introduced by Alison McMahan (University of Amsterdam), author of the new book Alice Guy Blaché: Lost Visionary of the Cinema. 1912, U.S., BW, 35mm, silent, 12 minutes

THE UNSHOD MAIDEN
Directed by Lois Weber
Based on her 1916 film Shoes, The Unshod Maiden is an early sound-era short that reduces Lois Weber's exposé to a comic send-up. 35mm print courtesy the Library of Congress. Introduced by Dan Streible, University of South Carolina. 1932 , U.S., BW, 35mm, sound, 10 minutes.

THE BLOT
Directed by Lois Weber
A newly restored feature from the Library of Congress, this dramatic film about class inequality is among the most powerful works by Lois Weber, considered by many to be cinema's most important female director. 1921, U.S., BW, 35mm, silent, 95 minutes.
