After 20 years with the seminal Kronos Quartet, cellist Joan Jeanrenaud embarks on a new journey, collaborating with composers, designers, videomakers, and visual artists to push the boundaries of the concert experience. The Walker presents the world premiere of Metamorphosis, an evening-length work comprised of five compositions interwoven in sequence. Included in the program is Philip Glass' solo composition for piano, Metamorphosis, from which the title of the work has evolved. Jeanrenaud's rearrangement for four cello incorporates taped and live performances and the work of five video artists, one for each movement of the piece, to create five distinct visual and aural atmospheres. The evening also includes major compositions by Nubian composer Hamza El Din; a cello solo by Zoltán Kodály; Steve Mackey's piece improvised and composed for cello and guitar processor; and reworkings of three performance pieces by Yoko Ono. Presented in conjunction with the exhibition Y E S YOKO ONO.
