What's next. It's a question and a statement. We would all love to have "pre-hindsight" about the future. One thing is certain: Digital technologies are transforming the environments in which we live, work, and learn. Directly and indirectly, they will similarly influence visual culture and the arts. Can we actively participate in the construction of these new environments, rather than merely being subject to them?
Frontline researcher-producers Dan Sandin (Electronic Visualization Laboratory, University of Illinois), Curtis Wong (Next Media Research, Microsoft Research Group), and Mitchel Resnick (MIT Media Lab) tell us about their pioneering work, the innovations their fields are now wrestling with, and what might be next. While they cannot guarantee us such agency, they can provide us the opportunity for dialogue. Join us.
