"If Brazil continues to produce albums as delicate and emotionally complex as
[Moreno Velosos's 2001 release] Music Typewriter, [it] will occupy as
honored a place in the 21st century as it did in the 20th." -- Time
Part of the vanguard of next-generation
Brazilian musicians, composer-singer Moreno Veloso and + 2 (Alexandre Kassin
and Domenico Lancelloti) meld the traditions of Brazil--samba, bossa nova,
MPB (música popular Brasileira)--with their own distinctive brand
of electronica, dub, Dadaist noise experiments, and sweet art-pop inflections.
Like his father (legendary Tropicalismo pioneer Caetano Veloso), this Veloso
points to an idiosyncratic yet seductive vision of new Brazilian music that
embraces past, present, and future.
