The European counterpart to Neo-Dada, primarily in France in the 1960s. Work favoring the grittiness of everyday life over the elegantly imaginative and introspective products of 1950s abstraction often using fournd objects. The Nouveau Realist's signed manifesto of 1960 called for "new approaches to the perception of the real" though each artist had individual approaches to the making of art.
