In Sri Lanka's northern war zone, a battle rages between government forces
and Tamil separatist fighters. One night a frightened young Tamil woman
falls into the bunker of a Sinhalese soldier where she is raped by him.
After two nights alone with the woman, the soldier deserts the army and
returns to his devastated village. She follows him. Standing against conventional
rules, Asoka Handagama employs the simplest of techniques and a rhythmic
flow of static images to maintain the tempo. 2000, Sri Lanka, in Sinhalese
and Tamil with English subtitles, 35mm, color, 104 minutes.
