For this talk, the Boyms discuss their varied work in design--proclaimed by the New York Times as "proletarian, populist, and subversive"--ranging from self-initiated projects to commissions for major companies. Featured in the exhibition are selections from the Boyms' Buildings of Disaster, a series of nickel-cast miniature replicas of structures and sites where tragic or terrible events took place, which they created to mark the end of the millennium. Boym Partners Incorporated has designed tableware for Alessi and Authentics, watches for Swatch, and exhibition installations for the National Building Museum and the Vitra showroom for NeoCon in 1999. The Boyms' work is part of the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, and the Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum in New York; the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art; and the Musée des Arts Decoratifs de Montréal. After the lecture, Constantin Boym will sign copies of Curious Boym: Design Works. Hardcover: $40 ($36 Walker members).
