KAKADU, 2 PM
Directed by Tahmineh Milani
This sci-fi children's movie takes us to the environmentalist-ruled planet of Kakadu, where polluters are sentenced to spend a week on Earth. The story develops as an eight-year-old earthling encounters some of the Kakaduans sent to our planet. 1995, Iran, in Farsi with English subtitles, 35mm, 100 minutes.

TWO WOMEN, 7 AND 9 PM
Directed by Tahmineh Milani
Feminist writer-director Milani spent seven years on the screenplay for Two Women, reworking it before Iran's film ministry would accept it. The story follows a smart country girl (Niki Karimi) as she goes to Tehran University, where she develops an intense friendship with another student. Though the girl excels in her studies, she evolves into an indentured wife and mother. Her spirit unbroken, she eventually seeks a better life. Karimi's powerful performance matches the filmmaker's impassioned screenplay and direction. 1999, Iran, in Farsi with English subtitles, 35mm, 95 minutes.
