The Mobile Unit The first proposal for the mobile unit was a long room on wheels, covered with a curious substance that looks like bubblegum. As shown in the the above picture of that model. The final mobile unit turned out a little different. Now that the whole project is finished being built, the wooden cabin is to remain permanently in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. This mobile unit, on the other hand, can be moved away from the Walker Art Center. Thus the great advantage of the mobile unit is that its activities don't have to take place in or around the museum. You could, for instance, bring the Art Lab to art exhibitions, festivals, other museums, or even put it in a residential district. The Walker Art Center would like the mobile unit to lend itself to a variety of activities such as an Art Lab, an exhibition space, a Walker Web site hookup, a theater, and so on. Initially the mobile unit is being housed in the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden. Thereafter the intention is that the mobile unit will also be lent to other community partners. These partners will first be invited by the Walker Art Center to learn how the mobile unit works and how it can be driven. Then they too will use the mobile unit for various different purposes, maybe even for an exhibition or an Art Lab in your area! If you have suggestions as to where the mobile unit could go, or activities it could be used for, you can let us know by going here the cabin | the mobile unit |
