I spent the morning on the phone in order to make appointments with artists and gallery. I have to say that I was not so successful. Troubles with area codes and so on. Then I went for a gallery tour starting with Tomio Koyama. Of course I lost my way a little bit in the subway and a little bit in the street. Tomio is Takashi Murakami's dealer and has a show with Vibeke Tandberg called Living Together. Photo manipulations in order to create or introduce a twin of the artist in the image. Fiction about clone. Tomio was not here. He was at the Utsunomiya City Museum for an opening, but his very helpful assistant was very informative and told me about a small art fair for young galleries happening over the weekend at Daikanyama. In the same building is Taro Nasu Gallery showing a nice Henry Bond exhibition. Sagacho Exhibit Space (directed by Kazuko Koike) was closed, but an opening is scheduled next week. These galleries are located in Koto-ku.
Went to some other galleries, but I have to admit that at this moment the spectacle, for me, was in the streets. I think it is part of the "New" effect, something close to exoticism, but I do not want to control it. Anyway I do not think Ginza will be my favorite place in town. Very fancy, shiny. I went back to the IH to meet with Yutaka Sone for dinner. Great. Yutaka is the artist who has in Unfinished History, the marble roller coaster. My first real Japanese dinner with an introduction to sake culture in a small restaurant in Roppongi. Yes I want to try all of them. Doing that all in the same night was maybe not the best idea, but it helps the conversation and the friendship a lot. Yutaka picked everything for me. It was just delicious. And then, after some sake he started calling his friend, at night, to meet with me. They were a little surprised, but whatever. Made it on time before the last call at the IH. I slept like a baby.

By the way Roppongi is the area where I am staying. Very central. A little bit 42nd Street, a lot of American tourists (no offense) and a lot of clubs which do not look like the clubs I want to go in. You do not need much explanation about that. Or maybe later. Anyway, it is still an amazing area. Never stops, crowded. And I discovered a book store open 24 hours a day. I know where I will spend the night when I miss the 1am curfew at the IH.

Sake is good for sleeping.
