In Carax's precocious, nouvelle vague-inspired debut, a young man named Alex (Denis Lavant) and a woman (Mireille Perrier) wander the night-soaked streets of Paris until they fatefully meet. The two try to make human connections in the director's nocturnal world of lost souls.
