· German Galleries
Initial interface in English, the rest of the site is in German. A comprehensive index and overview of German art galleries, institutions, artists, and cities, searchable by any category, and archived back to April 1996. German Galleries also links to Swissart, its Swiss equivalent.

· Artistguide
In German and English. This German guide to current and historical information on artists and exhibitions offers to list artist's curriculum vitae and up to 15 illustrations of work for a monthly fee. The information on Beuys is sponsored by Museum für Moderne Kunst, Frankfurt am Main, and features an image of the installation Lightning with a glare on the stag (1958-1985), accompanied by a curriculum vitae and an essay on the artwork.


MUSEUMS

· Stiftung Museum Schloß Moyland
In German. Located in Nordrhein-Westfalen, Germany, the museum is housed in a medieval castle recently restored and opened to the public. It houses the collection of the van der Grintens, personal friends of Beuys, featuring over 60,000 works of 19th- and 20th-century art. It features a vast collection of Beuys' work as well as the Joseph Beuys Archive, a collaborative effort with the Düsseldorf Academy of Art, which holds over 100,000 archival materials on Beuys' life and work.

· Städtische Galerie im Lenbachhaus, Kunstbau
In German. This Munich museum houses a collection of 19th- and 20th-century art, including Beuys' works. Featured on this site is a curriculum vitae-style biography, and two short essays on Beuys' primary ideas about art and the Free International University.

· Museum Haus Kasuya
In Japanese. Features their collection of Beuys multiples with gallery views and close-up views of several of the multiples.

· German Historical Museum, Berlin
In German and English. If you click on the small image, you'll see a full-screen enlargement of Beuys performing the action Celtic + mm. The action was part of the series Monday Evening at the Basel Theater, performed with Henning Christiansen in civil defense shelters in Basel, Switzerland, on April 5, 1971.

· Düsseldorf Kunstakademie
In German. Founded in 1872, Beuys studied here from 1947-1952, and was appointed the Professor of Monumental Sculpture in 1958 until his dismissal in 1972.

· Diözesanmuseum Köln
In German. Features an image of the work Untitled (Munitions chest with cross, pine staff and mountain lamp) (1972) and a lengthy essay on this work and on Beuys in general, featuring a link to the Dia Center's 7,000 Oaks site.

· Schnütgen-Museum
In German. Features the exhibition Joseph Beuys and the Middle Ages, January 24 to May 19, 1997, with images of three works in the show. The exhibition's themes are the cross as an orienteering tool and a symbol, sorrow and death, reliquaries and memory, and substance and material.

· Das Hessische Landesmuseum
In German. Featuring an image of Beuys' Fat Chair (1964), the museum's collection of Beuys' work is one of the features on this site.

· Demarco European Art Foundation
This site features an exhibition of Beuys' work presented in August 1996 and offers a minimal amount of information on Beuys in Scotland, Manresa, 7,000 Oaks, Babeth Film Art, Celtic - Kapital, and Joseph Beuys: Jimmy Boyle Days, Edinburgh 1980. The site offers sales of an interactive CD-ROM that documents Beuys' first visit to Scotland in May 1970 and contains more than 200 photographic images plus a video with commentary by Richard Demarco. The site also links to Web 13, Scotland's Premier Internet Cafe, which features the famous Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

· ATHENA: The Joseph Beuys Index
An excellent bibliographic resource. As it purports: "The first online index to subjects and names concerning the works of Joseph Beuys shall be a first guideline through his complex philosophical system. The index originated from a seminar on Joseph Beuys' theory of art that was held at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz in summer 1994." Also includes Internet resources for scholarly writing (in English) on Beuys.


INSPIRED BY BEUYS

· Beuys Cosmic Architect
A two-part Web project created by Emanuel Dimas De Melo Pimenta. The first part is an image created inside virtual environments with fragments by Lewis Carroll. The second part is a virtual reality conception where you can create your own work.

· "Was hat Joseph Beuys eigentlich im Krieg gemacht?"
In German. An online essay by Hagen Dirck Sanders, written while he was a student at the Chair of Aesthetics in Wuppertal, Germany. According to his teacher, Stefan Asmus, Sanders' idea "was to think and research about Beuys' role and function as a German air force officer" during the World War II. The images at this site are small copies of large computer paintings.


IN HONOR OF BEUYS

· The Joseph Beuys Lectures
The Ruskin School of Drawing and Fine Art at Oxford University has established a "series of lectures by speakers with highly personal viewpoints which commemorate the thinking of Joseph Beuys."

· Artists for Nature
In German. Artists focus on ecology in the spirit of Joseph Beuys. The site includes an honorable mention of Beuys and his work.


7,000 OAKS

· Demarco European Art Foundation
A short blurb on "an exhibition celebrating the opening of the 7,000 Oaks office at the Demarco European Art Foundation with documents, books, maps, correspondence related to 7,000 Oaks, the planting of a linear forest in homage to Joseph Beuys and his monumental sculpture created for the documenta 7 in Kassel, 1982-1987."

· Dia Center for the Arts
Features a brief biography, a page on Dia's part in the 7,000 Oaks project, and a promo of the book Joseph Beuys: Arena--where would I have got if I had been intelligent!
